The More Needful
Text: “Not only those things; I reckon everything as complete loss for the sake of what is so much more valuable, the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have thrown everything away; I consider it all as mere garbage, so that I may gain Christ… All I want is to know Christ”
(Philippians 3:8, 10 GNB)
Paul had analysed everything that could be and realised that the most important of all is the knowledge of Christ. That was his primary pursuit. I think that also ought to be ours! So many of us are born again, we have been delivered from our “Sins”. But then what next? What now is our main pursuit?
Too often we get carried away many times with those things of lesser value, they might still be important and needed, but are we ignoring the weightier matters? Are we actively in pursuit of those matters that are less important?
This was the case with our sisters of old, Mary and Martha, to which Jesus said “…One thing is needful” (Luk 10:42). So let’s face it, every other thing we might be doing for Christ, be it singing in the choir, our money, our time, or even voluntary serving in The LA Family, yes, it’s great and its equally needed. But put the pursuit of the knowledge of Christ ought to be our highest priority.
It would be of utmost benefit to us all, if we cherish time spent in study, meditation on the word of God much more than every other act of service to God. Let’s do a re-assessment. We must seek Christ first.
Pray: Lord, help me to grow in the knowledge of Christ.
