Confidence In God Only!

TEXT: “Don’t put your confidence in powerful people; there is no help for you there. When they breathe their last, they return to the earth, and all their plans die with them.” Psalm 146:3-4

It seems like we have a list of powerful people generated daily – Top 100 Most Powerful People, Top 20 Most Powerful Businessmen, Top 15 Most Powerful Africans, and so on. The more we are bombarded with these lists, the more fixated we are on the idea that powerful men rule the world.

And it is very easy to put our trust in those we see rather than God, who we cannot see. The Bible warns us about this reminding us that these “powerful people” are human beings like us – here today, gone tomorrow; CEO today, unemployed tomorrow. Those who put their trust in man will inevitably be disappointed because man is limited.

This is where faith comes in. We must put our confidence in God who is ALWAYS there even though we cannot see Him. He is constant. Ps. 146:10 tells us that God shall reign forever. How comforting is that? He keeps every promise forever (Ps.146:6). A man may make you a promise today and is unable to fulfill it tomorrow.

LEARN and APPLY: God is not a man. Take your eyes off powerful people and put them on our POWERFUL God.

Pray: Lord Jesus! My Helper! The maker of heaven and earth and everything in them, teach me to put my trust in You, now and forevermore. Amen.
