We have a new book before us – Zephaniah. Zephaniah prophesied about the coming day of the Lord.
On this day, God will come for some, and come against others. What kind of people will God come for? And what kind will He come against?
God will come for those he has consecrated:
Be silent before the Lord God!
For the day of the Lord is near;
the Lord has prepared a sacrifice
and consecrated his guests (v. 7).
God will come for the consecrated. Are you consecrated to the Lord?
But who will God come against?
Zephaniah 1 provided a range of things which qualified one for God’s wrath. the one that caught my eye, however, was the sin in v. 5:
‘those who bow down and swear to the Lord
and yet swear by Milcom,’
It is evil to trust God, yet still go to the devil for help, or like we say, ‘help ourselves.’ God hates it, and is calling on us to repent of double -mindedness.
Double-tongue shows :
1. A heart filled with unbelief
2. A heart lacking in faith
3. A heart that does not trust God.
I know I just said the same thing 3 times. It is for emphasis.
How can we overcome?
We overcome by abiding in the word of God. By being doers of the word.
May God help us so we will not be guilty of bowing down to the enemy, while pretending to be bowing down to God.
