Why The Anointing Oil?

TOday is going to be a special healing service. We’ll be praying for the sick for them to be healed.
James 5:14. Is anyone sick, call the leaders to pray.
If the Bible talks about anointing him with oil, then there must be something with the oil.
1. THe Bible speaks about the oil in connection with the Holy Spirit. The oil is not the power, but it is real. In the OT, when someone was anointed the
the oil could be a means of grace, like the bread and wine in the communion. Something that can bring the grace of God in any situation.
It is good to have some oil around.
2 Different ways of using the oil.
1. The consecration of the priests
2. When it was poured over a single person for ministry.
1. When they built the tabernacle in the desert, it was important that the tabernacle was consecrated. There were real borders between what was holy and what was profane. And to consecrate things, they used oil.
Ex 28:40
Ex 30:25,30
The oil made a separation between what was God’s – sanctified.
v. 31.
2 Cor 2:21-24
Every child of God is anointed of God. There are only two kingdoms. The kingdom of GOd, and the kingdom of the devil. You are in one kingdom!
THere are only two ways: the broad way, and the narrow way, you are on one way. Which way are you on?
As a child of God, you are in the kingdom of God. Because of what christ has done. Because of the new birth, you are removed from darkness into the kingdom of God. This is what gives soul to the church, when we understand the boundary between the kingdom of God and that which is not the kingdom of God.
The devil wants us to believe that these boundaries do not exist.
THere is a difference between a Christian and an unbeliever.
You are either inside or not inside.
1 COr. 3;16 – WE are not like everybody else.
We are the light of the world.
We are the salt of the earth.
1 Peter 2:9
No matter how you feel, you are a chosen generation. You are meant to demonstrate that there is a God in heaven, and his kingdom has come among us. The kingdom of God is within us.
We are here to announce to the world that everyone can step into the kingdom.
In the old testament, if a tourist would enter into the HOly of holies, that would be the end of his holiday, but because of Christ, everyone can enter the kingdom of God.
The church is the hope of this world. The church must demonstrate that the kingdom of God is amongst us.
Oil was used to set the boundary between what is holy and what is not.
2. 1 Samuel 16:12-13
If we are children of GOd, then we can be filled with the holy spirit, and the power of God can come upon us, giving us wisdom, fearlessness to do what God has called us to do.
Acts 10:38
As the spirit of God came upon Christ, the power of God came mightily on him. And Jesus could do all he did because the power of GOd was upon him…and this power is available for everyone. God can and wants to give it to every Christian who asks!
Acts 1:8
Strength to fulfill your caling you can receive by the power of the holy spirit.
The church is called to deliver the bound, to bring healing, to demonstrate the power of God in this world.
After coming into the kingdom of God, we need to pray for power. Ask for wisdom, boldness seen the life of Paul and David. This power is available for the church. The question is how badly do you want it?
1 Kings 18:46 – Elijah outran Ahab as the power of God came upon him.
It is important that we be zealous for the gifts of the Holy spirit, because as long we pray, the oil will flow. As long as you pray, God will give.
THe prophet Elijah was weak and wanted God to take his life, and prayed to God and his strength came back.
Let not never stop thirsting for the gift of the Holy SPirit.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for they shall beo filed.
James 5:16 – Let’s pray for strength and power to fulfill our ministry.
Prayer Time:
If you have lost that hunger for God I want you to say the prayer:
Father in the name of Jesus, I pray restore in me the desire to be used by you. I want to be a vessel of the wisdom of the Holy Spirit. for the power of the Holy SPirit, gifts of the Holy SPirit.
Holy Spirit, fill me today. Give me your power. Open my eyes so I can see what you can do through your church today.
