In chapter 1, Habakkuk made a series of complaints to the Lord. He complained about the wicked and how they were triumphing in the land. But he didn’t stop at complaining. He wanted to hear from God. He needed an answer from God. God’s opinion mattered to Him.
“I will take my stand at my watchpost
and station myself on the tower,
and look out to see what he will say to me (v. 1).”
Habakkuk was prepared for an answer. He wasn’t casual about it. He needed God to speak to Him, and so stationed himself to hear from God.
Prayer is a two – way communication. We talk to God, he talks back at us. What happens with many of us is that we talk to Him, but do not expect a reply from him. Or our hearts are not watered enough with the word of God to know when God is speaking to us.
God always speaks to his people, but we must watch and pray, or better still pray and watch.
Habakkuk got the answer he sought from the Lord. For He writes further,
And the Lord answered me:
“Write the vision;
make it plain on tablets,
so he may run who reads it.
For still the vision awaits its appointed time;
it hastens to the end—it will not lie.
If it seems slow, wait for it;
it will surely come; it will not delay (vv. 2-3).
I pray that all of us who are waiting to hear a word from God will do the needful: pray to God, separate ourselves; with pen and paper in hand ready to hear ‘what he will say to us.’
The Lord will speak to you in Jesus name.
