The power of words

Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. Psalm 141:3
Words! Words! Words! How powerful, how impactful are the words we use. Words are the fastest growing seeds anyone will ever plant. Assuredly they will bear fruits, come rain, come sunshine! The psalmist too knew the power of words, and he understood that if the Lord did not keep the door of His lips, then he wouldn’t be able to guard his mouth. He had the desire, but not in his own strength.

This should be our prayer today, that the Lord will keep the doors of our lips. Sometimes, life puts us on the edge. People can be so wicked that the only words that could come out our mouths are curses, complaints and all manner of negative words. People can be annoying, oh yes, they are just human, but that does not mean that we allow the anger to take control and speak on our behalf.
Words build, words break. If you don’t have anything good to say, it is better to zip it up, and ask God for His grace. I don’t know about you, but numerous times I wished I had shut my mouth. However, regrets do nothing much, the scar has already been left. Save yourself the trouble and choose your words wisely. You must not answer to every critic; you are too high for that!

Don’t you know who you are? You are born of God, and in His own likeness. As He is, so you are. His words only BUILD. They only CREATE, ENCOURAGE… the list is endless. God’s word is LIFE. He speaks life. It is a very big challenge, but with His help, all things are possible. Choose to speak life even in dead situations and see how powerful that is.

Choose to speak life always. I speak life.

Remember
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits. Prov 18:21

But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. Matt 15:18

On the day of judgment people will give account for every careless word they speak. Matt 12:36

Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin. Prov 13:3

But now you must put them all away: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and obscene talk from your mouth Col 3:8

Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. Eph 4:29)

Finally, Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. Phil 4:8
