The Fear of God

Text: Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. – Proverbs 3:7

Reading:
Proverbs 3, Genesis 3

LEARN and APPLY:

The message translation reads, ‘Do not assume you know it all. Run to God! Run from evil!’ (Prov 3:7) The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom therefore a man, who doesn’t fear God, is unwise, or worse, wise in his own eyes. We fear God when we trust in Him, and that fear keeps us doing right by Him. Fleeing from all appearances of evil simply because God cannot behold evil. Therefore the way to maintain our trust in God is to develop ‘sound judgement and discernment’ (Prov 3:21). These are vital tools to keep us in check, which we should always preserve in our hearts.

Pray: Heavenly Father, we ask for the grace to remain well grounded in You and true to You, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
