READ: #LAActs Devotional Day 13 ‘The Church Is Marching On’

image

Meanwhile, the Word of God continued to spread, and there were many new believers. Acts 12:24

The believers were  persecuted, Stephen and James had died for their faith, yet one would think the zeal to preach the word of God in Jesus  Christ would be quenched. The complete opposite was happening, the Word of God grew and multiplied. There were many new believers. The Church was growing and the gates of hell could not prevail against it.

We are the Church and in order to keep marching on we can learn and apply some lessons from the lives of the believers.

The word: The believers knew the Word. Only those that know the Word can spread it. When Philip encountered the Ethiopian Eunuch, it was his knowledge and understanding of the Word that broke the ice (Acts 8:25-35). Endeavour to study the Word and ask the Holy Spirit for understanding.

Fellowship: The believers devoted themselves to fellowship. They always met to share the Word, encourage one another, give to one another, pray together and eat together. We must not neglect meeting together; we should encourage one another (Hebrews 10:25). Let’s get rid of the ‘fellowship is boring’ mentality.

Prayer: The believers also prayed constantly. They had seen God move in so many situations in times past (The Apostles’ release from prison, Peter’s miraculous escape). Remember, the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much (James 5:16).

Grow in your knowledge of the Word, fellowship with other believers and pray without ceasing.

Prayer Focus:
Father, may Your work continue without hindrance. The Church will continue to forge ahead and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
