February: month of the BELIEVER’S AUTHORITY
Reading: 1 Corinthians 4-7

Our Bodies, God’s Temple

“What? Know you not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you. Which you have of God,and you are not your own” 1 Cor. 6:19(KJV)

As Christians, we are the temple of God and by God’s temple it means we are no longer our own but that a higher power and authority owns us. There are two reasons why we are not our own:-
1. The Spirit, which has possession of our bodies is not our own, but given to us ‘of God’.
2. We have been bought by a great price, the blood of Christ; it is a complete purchase (1 Peter 1:18-19).

As our bodies are not ours to do as we please, we have no right to give them over to sin. By virtue of the Holy Spirit dwelling in us, we are made Christians. However we are expected to consecrate our bodies to the service of God. Make chastity the keeper of this sacred house and forbid all things unclean or profane to enter it. Lest the God who dwells in it, being displeased, should desert His habitation, which is now defiled.

It cost God a great deal to purchase us that is why His Spirit can dwell in us. We have been redeemed out of the hands of Divine justice, rescued from the bondage of Satan and sin and have become subjects and servants of Christ. Who has obtained an eternal dominion over us.

We should glorify God in our bodies- by temperance, chastity, purity; and in our spirit- by faith, hope and love; humility. Resignation, patience; by meekness, gentleness, long-suffering, and universal benevolence.
Simply put, we are to yield our bodies and all our members, as well as our souls and all their faculties, as instruments of righteousness to God. Or devote and employ all we have, and all we are, entirely, unreservedly, and forever, to His glory.

Prayer Focus:
Dear Lord, grant us the grace to live for You each day and to glorify You with our bodies knowing that You dwell in us. Amen
