Wisdom To Guard My Tongue

TEXT: “Do not be rash with your mouth, and let not your heart utter anything hastily before God. For God is in heaven, and you on earth; Therefore let your words be few” – Ecclesiastes 5:2 (NKJV)

Wisdom demands we refrain our lips (Pro 10:19). Many times we may speak out of turn in anger, in excitement, in frustration, not realizing the full effect on our lives and the lives of those around us. The power of life and death lies in our tongue (Pro 18:21), and yet it is the most unruly member of our body (James 3:6).

Our words tend to have a lasting effect on the hearer and, when spoken rashly, the effect is detrimental. So be cautious about the proclamations we make over our lives, our spouses and our children, especially in the hearing of God (He hears the utterances of both the heart and mouth).

Meditate on that which is pure, and noble (Philippians 4:8) and guard your heart jealously for out of it flows the issues of life (Pro 4:23)

Pray: Lord, teach me to count my words, and to guard the source from which they issue, so as not awaken Your wrath in Jesus name. Amen.
