Wisdom For Friendships

TEXT: “As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.” Proverbs 27:17 (NKJV)

LEARN and APPLY:
Two metals of the same substance cannot sharpen each other sufficiently for enduring use. Likewise two or more people who are like-minded cannot teach one another that they experience growth. Therefore surround yourself with people who will teach you, and whom you may teach too.

We need friends whose perspectives will test what we believe (please note I wrote ‘test’, not influence) so that we will read, pray and meditate on scripture to sharpen our knowledge, understanding and application of the word of God. We need friends who are wise, friends who are able to rebuke us, friends who aid our growth – be they our teachers or our students.

We all can learn from each other and need diverse friendships to appreciate the unique-being of God in the body of Christ, and in mankind, for God to be praised by all the peoples of earth. (Heb. 10:24-25, John 13:34, Rev. 21:3)

Pray:
Beloved God, help me to choose wisely the friends who will sharpen me that I may have an enduring and obedient faith, which honours You, and will win souls for You, in Jesus’ name Amen.
