The Storm Is Coming!

Text: “Therefore, tell them, ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says: No more delay! I will now do everything I have threatened. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken!’”.” Ezekiel 12:28 (NLT)

When cities receive storm alerts, they take immediate precautions. Satellite reports issue updates on the impending danger, the media give urgent instructions on how to guard against the surging destructive tides and the internet would provide details of evacuation routes and safe harbours. These prompt responses make me wonder why people take the warnings issued by the weather agencies so seriously, yet intentionally refuse to hear God’s warnings, whether on a personal issue or the global scene.

In Ezekiel 12, God explains to Ezekiel that the Israelites had deluded themselves into thinking that the judgment of Jerusalem will not impact them since it was so far in the future. The Israelites’ attitude then is similar to what we find in today’s church. People (Christians inclusive) choose to enjoy sin and its association, misrepresenting God’s faithful love. However, we must be wary of fashioning a God of our own in our minds – who is all abundant grace and no wrath. Although many do not want to consider the idea that God might soon judge them or their nation, this present age is drawing to a close and there is a promised judgment (Revelation 10:6-7).

Yes, the storm is coming, that dreadful day is near. But there is a sure way of escaping God’s judgment. It is found in Christ. Those who have accepted and placed their faith in Him enjoy His peace here on earth and are assured of a glorious eternity with Him. But to reject God’s warning and deliverance is to invite destruction.

LEARN and APPLY: Don’t mistake judgment deferred for judgment denied. Delay is not denial with God. Watch, pray and sound the alarm of the imminent coming of Christ and earth’s judgment, these “things which must shortly take place”. (Rev 1:1)

Pray: Jesus, give me deep awareness of Your return that I may live wholly and holy for you; and keep watch over the souls you have entrusted to me so I may not lose them.
