The Righteous Judge

TEXT: “Gather My saints together to Me, Those who have made a covenant with Me by sacrifice.” Psalm 50:5

What stops us from fully surrendering to God? The fear that on judgement day, our past may be used to judge us or we are found lacking? Or perhaps, we perceive saints to be spotless and without sin? Whatever it is, we are prey to living a half-hearted routine of a Christian life when we cannot grasp God’s ability to have mercy on us and see past our failures.

Today’s psalm reminds us that we were made to love Him – a love that makes us vulnerable to God’s scrutiny and judgement. A love that is active and personal, not sacrificial and stoic. And, according to Psalm 50:7-15, God doesn’t require an external sacrifice as an atonement of sins. So why do we continuously find external objects to offer as sacrifice to God when the ultimate sacrifice is our flesh. God wants you!

We can faithfully live our lives in routine offering, sacrifice and service to God until our last breath, but it will have been in vain if our hearts have not entered into covenant with Him (John 1:12). And as we reflect on the character of God, may we understand that God cares less for what we did for Him but cares more for how we have allowed Him to love us.

Choose to enter into a daily covenant sacrifice of praise with God. (Psalm 50:23)
