The Flying Scroll!

TEXT: “Then I turned, and lifted up my eyes, and looked, and behold a flying scroll.” Zechariah 5:1 (KJV)

The scroll in today’s text reminds me of the area where I live in Lagos. Aeroplanes frequently pass overhead, you can hear them and when you look up they have passed or become very distant. The flying scroll, which Zechariah saw, represents God’s Word – God’s laws, judgements, curses, blessings were written in scrolls in the past. And, the flying scroll depicts that God’s Word runs swiftly i.e. His Word and commandments, which He sent forth, upon earth (Psalm 147:15).

God’s blessing comes swiftly to the believer in God. We are rewarded for our obedience and faithful walk with God and our Saviour Jesus Christ here on earth and for all eternity when we meet with God. However, just as blessings come to us swiftly, so too will God’s wrath (vengeance and judgements) come upon sinners and children of disobedience.

Our salvation is nearer than when we first believed (Romans 13:11). The only way to escape God’s wrath is to repent, believe in Jesus Christ and obey God’s commandments. Do not joke with the window of grace, which Christ Jesus has opened up for us (Romans 6:1). Let us not taunt God with our disobedience because what we sow, we reap! (Gal.6:7).

LEARN and APPLY: We should seek God now and escape God’s judgement that is coming like the flying scroll.

Pray: Lord, we ask the help of the Holy Spirit to constantly convict us and grant us the grace to run a good race. Amen!
