The Door Keeper

TEXT: “I see what you’ve done. Now see what I’ve done. I’ve opened a door before you that no one can slam shut. You don’t have much strength, I know that; you used what you had to keep my Word. You didn’t deny me when times were rough.” (MSG)

My daughter’s birthday is approaching, which usually means we enter a period where she exhibits newly discovered confidence. These challenges to boundaries and rules I embrace. Mostly because I enjoy the process of guiding her to the realisation that she has far more freedom than she perceives – if she chose to simply listen and obey. But she is a child, no matter how old she increases in years, for the most part she feels that the door to freedom is always closed, without noticing that another door in the room is wide open.

We are like children when we cannot see Jesus standing at the door to a life that will be blessed beyond measure. That Jesus refers to Himself as a door is significant. A doorkeeper will not permit entry to any unauthorised person or thing. But, will open the door for every good and pleasant thing that the owner (our Father), permits to enter a building (our life).

And the purpose of this? We have been called to a life of ministry. We know the message; Jesus is the way (John 14:6). Now we are to commit, as the church of Philadelphia, to whatever door of ministry Christ holds open for us.

Jesus knows you are ineloquent, He knows you are just holding on, He knows your weaknesses. He wants you anyway, and is ready to support you through every trial if you would remain confident in His word.

LEARN and APPLY: Trust that the Lord is the doorkeeper to every aspect of your life. If He shuts one, Praise Him! If He holds open another, enter it by faith and believe there will be a harvest, which will glorify His name.

Pray: Lord Jesus, I am happy that You are the doorkeeper of my life. I will enter every door You hold open or walk away from those shut because I give You full control. Amen
