The City Of God

TEXT: “Facing the twenty cubits that belonged to the inner court, and facing the pavement that belonged to the outer court, was gallery against gallery in three stories.” Ezekiel 42:3

The descriptions given of the different parts of the temple reveal a magnificent structure. The measurements of the temple are so out-of-this-world that contentions have arisen as to whether those measurements are indeed realistic. If a temple to be built on earth could be this magnificent, how much more wonderful would be the eternal dwelling God has prepared for us?

A study of Revelation 21 shows that God has prepared a Holy City, a new Jerusalem where He will dwell with us for eternity. Some of the features of the Holy City are:
– having the glory of God, it radiates like a most rare jewel, like jasper, clear as crystal.
– The wall is built of jasper and the foundations of the wall are adorned with every kind of jewel: emerald, topaz, amethyst, sapphire, etc.
– The city and its streets are made of pure gold like transparent glass.
– It has no need for sun or moon for its light is the glory of God and its lamp, the Lamb.

What a glorious description!

There is nothing on earth, no matter how beautiful, that can compare to the great design of the City of God. Although Revelation 21:27 has a caution: nothing unclean will ever enter it, or anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s book of life.

LEARN and APPLY: Let the beauty of God’s creation inspire us to worship him for His greatness and His glory.

Pray: Dear Lord, we praise you for the works of your hands. May we never cease to marvel at and appreciate the beauty of the heavens and the earth, in Jesus name, Amen.
