The Spirit-Filled Life

Text: “And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit.”               Ephesians 5:18 (NKJV)

To be filled with the Spirit is to habitually live with every conscious area of our lives absolutely yielded to the control and power of the Holy Spirit, as in the same manner a person filled / drunk with wine is totally under the influence of the wine. It involves continuously deepening our relationship with God, through the indwelling of His Spirit, which in turn release His power. This will enable us to walk in the supernatural at all times and we need to understand that although the Christian life is not difficult, it is absolutely impossible without the influence of Holy Spirit.

From a quick study of Colossians 3:16, which is a parallel scripture to Ephesians 5:18, we can infer that being filled with the Word is equal to being filled with the Spirit i.e. the Spirit-filled Christian is the Word-filled Christian (notice that both texts are followed by joyful singing of hymns, thankfulness to God, and instructions about submission).

As the Word of Christ richly dwells in us, and we walk in obedience to the Word, the Spirit of God fills, dominates and influences us to become Christ-like in character, conduct and service.

LEARN and APPLY: To live a spirit-filled life in a continuously expanding capacity, we should consistently meditate on and remain steadfastly yielded to do God’s Word; and grow in our love for God through regular sweet fellowship.

Prayer Focus:
Heavenly Father, help me to always stay in Your Word. Teach me to be held by You and to grow in loving communion with Your Spirit.
