April: Month of Love.
Reading: Ephesians 2, Psalms 53

April 29

Text: ‘For by grace ye are saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.’ Ephesians 2:8-9 (KJV)

An example of grace can be seen as the love that flows from a mother’s heart at the sight of her newborn. The newborn has not done anything to deserve his/her mother’s love and cannot understand the sacrifice and pain the mother just went through to bring him/her into the world but the mother is more than willing to go to much more lengths to prove her love.

So also God’s love for us and the sacrifice He made by giving us His son Jesus that we in turn might be called the sons of God(1 John.3:1). What could we have possibly done to deserve this great show of love and acceptance? The answer is nothing, for if we had steps to follow for our salvation or works to apply, we would start to boast that we applied the right steps to earn our salvation. Grace can never be worked for; there is nothing we can do to atone for our sins. If it is worked for, then it is not grace.

We know by faith that God saved us not because we deserve it but just as a result of His mercy and Grace.
LEARN and APPLY: Just believe in your hearts that God chose you first and that it isn’t because you are good. He loves you and wants to give you grace for all things!

Prayer Focus:
Thank You Father for Your grace! Grant us a deep understanding of Your love for us. Amen!
