New Covenant!

Text: ‘For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:’ Hebrews 8:10 (KJV)

While growing up, my dad had lots of rules to be followed by everyone. One was the 6pm compulsory curfew. I got beat several times for coming home later than 6pm to the point that I had to keep it in mind. Even now, I subconsciously adhere to this 6pm curfew that I feel uncomfortable staying out past the hour, except it is important.

The old covenant depended on Priests (Levites) and Prophets to read and translate to the people. Whenever the covenant (law) was read, the people will be so convicted, sorry and sad even to the point of weeping (Ezra 10:1) because they felt so unworthy and undeserving of God’s mercies. But immediately they left the presence of God, they resumed their normal business – there was no depth in the love and knowledge they professed they had for God.

God wanted something better and gave us this new Covenant. He writes it directly into our minds that if we open up to Him through His Word and by the power of the Holy Spirit, He will reveal Himself to us directly. This enables us to have a relationship with Him. We can now speak to Him directly without fear. And God will not only forgive our sins, He will remember them no more because sin has been dealt with once and for all by the sacrifice of Jesus.

LEARN and APPLY: The blessings and joys of the new Covenant is open to us. Get to know God personally by reading His Word daily and not rely solely on your pastor’s Sunday teachings!

Pray: Father Lord, thank You for this new Covenant! We can boldly come before You for everything, as You have always desired. Amen
