Living The Master’s Purpose In Unity

Text: “You must shine among them like stars…as you offer them the message of life” Philippians 2:15b-16a (Good News).

For many of us persecution or perhaps the infiltration of wolves clothed as sheep is still a persistent challenge facing the church today. In doing so, we sometimes overlook the basic challenge facing the church, which is a unity of purpose. Is the church today united in purpose? Or are we becoming uncaring for the interest of Christ, forgetting that regardless of all we do, our sole goal as Christians is to bring many souls to God.

Philippians 2 is a reminder of the need for us all to be one in soul and mind in fulfilling the purpose of God, which is reconciling mankind to Himself. The purpose of our salvation and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and His gifts in us are not for grandstanding. Instead they are to enable us shine like stars in a dark world (Philippians 2:15b, Good news) and thereby bringing men to Christ. Our lives, gifts and resources are to be used in harmony; as a church with the sole aim of being reconciliation agents (Phil 2:13a; 2 Cor 5:18-19 Good News) and bringing glory to God.

Rescue the perishing
Duty demands it
Strength for thy labor the Lord will provide
Back to the narrow way
Patiently win them
Tell the poor wanderer a Savior has died.
(Hymn: Fanny J Crosby)

LEARN and APPLY: God intends that our lives be a worthy example of humility (Christ) as we utilize the gifts the Spirit has given us in worship and in service (Timothy and Epaphroditus). He saved us so that we may bring home the lost.

Prayer Focus:
Faithful Father, please help the body of Christ to be united in purpose, seeking your interests and bringing the lost home to Christ; we pray as a family especially that every need of those missionaries in volatile areas be met speedily in Jesus’ name.
