Let No Man Despise Your Youth

Text: “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.” – 1 Tim 4:12

Youth is usually associated with strength, and old age with wisdom. It is however an amazing thing to see a young man who is both strong and wise. Such person is a great asset to the kingdom of God.

Paul admonished Timothy to not give anyone occasion to despise his youth, that is, to look down on him because he was young. He encouraged him to conduct himself with the wisdom which will gain him respect and make him an example to the brethren.

It doesn’t matter if we are young or old in the faith. When we gain the respect of others by leading our own lives well, we gain the opportunity to lead others. We should therefore carefully eliminate every attitude or lifestyle that is making our message of none effect. We should also use the gifts God has given us freely and fearlessly so that those around us can be inspired to live for God (1 Tim.4:14).

Learn and Apply: Have people been looking down on you because of the way you have been conducting yourself? It’s time to begin to live with prudence so that your life will inspire others.

Prayer: Father, I thank you for the gifts you have given me. Help me to conduct myself respectably so I will be an example to my generation. Amen.
