June 24 – Proverbs 24: Plan then Build

Plan then Build
Proverbs 24

Text: Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thine house (v. 27).

Learn and Apply: Solomon was a master of planning and preparation. He did not only pen down this proverb based on inspiration, but also out of experience, for all the materials for house of God was made ready before it was built (1 Kings 6:7). He understood the need to first estimate the cost, and make the materials available before embarking on the project at hand. This will help us to avoid being laughed at when the project is abandoned due to inadequate planning or insufficient materials.

This advice is useful for business as well as for family. Some see it to mean that a young man must first get a competence for himself before marrying a wife and starting a family; i.e., he must be able to comfortably provide for his wife and children.

Whether one wants to apply this proverb to marriage and family or to building a house or starting a venture, we find that one who first counts the cost has a clearer picture of the road ahead, and thus makes himself ready for the journey.

May God help us to be good planners; and as we plan, may God provide all we need to accomplish our dreams in Jesus name.

Pray: Thank you Father for your word which encourages me to plan. Give me the grace to plan and pursue my plans till completion in Jesus name.
