I Am God’s Ambassador

TEXT: ‘Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.’ James 4:4 (NKJV)

Whenever I am reminded that I am ‘not of this world’ (John 15:19) I am reminded of the roles of ambassadors. No matter how attractive their new setting, the ambassador remains aware that their stay is temporary, and does not get comfortable to the point where their home country is forgotten – they know that their presence is a representation of their nation.

We can liken friendship with the world to an adoption of the world systems, which are in direct contrast with God’s system. 2 Timothy 3:1-5 gives us insight into the world system – Pride, disobedience, ungratefulness, ungodliness, lack of forgiveness, hatred and so on.

God’s system builds Love, Humility and Submission, which is hard for the world to grasp or accept. The unbeliever does not receive these things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him. And he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. (1 Corinthians 2:14)

Even though we are in the world, as representatives of our Heavenly Father, the cares or pleasures of this world must not carry us away. Setting our minds and affections on these things take our attention off God.

LEARN and APPLY: There is a distinction between the world system and God’s system, and our heavenly Father has made it clear that we cannot love both. One trumps the other. Choose God’s system.

PRAY: Father. Help me to live a set apart life. I may be in this world but I’m certainly not of it.
