‘God’s Awesome Power’

TEXT: Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off. Nahum 1:15 (KJV)

There is a saying in my language, Yoruba, “the teeth the dog uses to play with its puppy is the same one it uses to discipline it”. When the Lord fights for us and takes our oppressors out of the equation, never to threaten us again, we ought to continue in the ways of our God.

As sons and daughters of God, our assurance of security in God is evident throughout the Bible. And Psalm 27:1, Psalm 34:17 and Exodus 14:14 are just a few of the bible scriptures that tell us of God’s awesome power and ability to act beyond our capability.

Irrespective of the depth of God’s loving kindness (Psalms 36:7), His fury may come down on us if we seek praise through our iniquities (Psalms 36:2). So let us seek to “keep” (Nahum1:15) all the oaths and pledges we make because failure to do these makes us enemies of God, which subjects us to his wrath and vengeance.

LEARN AND APPLY: Let’s not measure our deeds by our own standards but by God’s, so we may not fall short.

Pray: Dear Lord, it is my desire to love and honour You endlessly and without fail. Help me to remain in the path of righteousness all the days of my life. Amen.
