God Watches

TEXT: ‘God roars from Zion, shouts from Jerusalem! The thunderclap voice withers the pastures tended by the shepherds, shrivels Mount Carmel’s proud peak’ Amos 1:2 (MSG)

As Christians we should understand that the foundation of everything we do is love. To love our neighbours is also the second commandment that Jesus gave to us (Mark 12:28-31). If we have love we would not hurt those around us, including such acts as lying, stealing and gossiping.

The people in Amos 1 have not acted in love towards each other. They have broken treaties, detained captives, and committed numerous violent acts against innocents (Amos 1:6-13), which incites God’s anger.

Though we are living under a better covenant, based on better promises and we find forgiveness through repentance, all our actions are still seeds sown into the ground. And, if we sow the seeds of ill treatment towards our neighbours, we will still reap its own reward.

God watches all we do including the way we treat those around us, especially those who can do nothing for us in return, and He is never happy when we treat mistreat anyone.

LEARN and APPLY: We should sow the seeds of love and reap its beautiful harvest, and we in turn can have peace even with our enemies.

Pray: Heavenly Father, we sincerely ask that You help us to be loving to everyone we come across daily, so that through our actions they will see You in us and come to know You better, in Jesus name we pray. Amen!
