God The Conversationalist’

TEXT: “Listen now, listen to GOD: “Take your stand in court. If you have a complaint, tell the mountains; make your case to the hills. And now, Mountains, hear GOD ’s case; listen, Jury Earth— For I am bringing charges against my people. I am building a case against Israel” (Micah 6:1-2 MSG)

From the beginning of creation, God has sought meaningful relationship with us. A real conversational relationship in which He could speak and get a response (Gen. 3:8-9), and a reverential one in which we understood that God is the sole source of our existence (Deut. 8:2). We, on the other hand, are quick to fall out of this relationship but God is rich in mercy and always pursues mankind to try to restore us to Him.

In today’s reading, God delivers His scolding in a strikingly conversational tone. In a bid to restore the relationship between Him and them, God invites the Israelites to try and make a case against Him. God makes it clear that although obedience is important to Him, what He seeks most is a relationship. God is not interested in robotic piety. God wants an authentic and conversational relationship.

Like the Israelites, we abuse our relationship with God. When life is rosy, we are eager to make God a part of our daily routine. When life is a struggle, we forget all that He has done. This makes Him mad (Gen. 3:16-19). If only we waited on God, and whilst we wait conversed with God, we will soon realize that He always has a plan us.

LEARN and APPLY: It’s important that we always remember that God seeks an authentic relationship with us. God wants children who have realized the futility of their sins, and have decided to choose Him. (Isaiah 1:18)

Pray: Dear Father, I plead my case before you today. I remember all you did for me on the cross and invite you into the all situations of my life where I need Your help. I repent of any rebellion in my heart and ask for a fresh relationship with You, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
