Get Over It And Move On!

Text: ‘For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lust, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:’ 1 Peter 4:3 (KJV)

Recently, a friend called to apologise for something she thought she had done to me. When I asked her to remind me, I laughed so hard that she was surprised. Truth is, I didn’t even know she had offended me, and I understood her need to apologise because in the past I would have thrown temper tantrums for way less.

St. Peter is admonishing us to move on from what had kept us bound as sinners (Gentiles). We cannot claim to be born again and our lives have not been renewed and transformed inside out. Are we still known for the same lifestyles we had before we gave our lives to Christ? Or, without having to constantly remind people that we have accepted Christ, are we seen as Christ-like in our comportment and mannerisms?

In Luke 9:62, Jesus said, ‘No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.’ This is our mandate to constantly examine our lives, are we still living like we did when we were sinners? Are we still given to drunkenness, anger, pride, lust, fornication and all manner of evil?

Today is a day of sanctification. The blood of Jesus has the cleansing power to make us fit for the Kingdom of God.

LEARN and APPLY: Let us review our journey with the Lord so far. Is there true progress or are we just going back and forth? If the former, to God be the glory but if the latter, let us move on from doing the will of the Gentiles and get on with the will of God. Remember Lot’s wife!

Pray: Jesus Lord, we come before You in total submission, asking that Your blood will sanctify us and make us worthy followers. Amen
