TEXT: “…for we were not disorderly or shirking of duty when we were with you [we were not idle]” 2 Thessalonians 3:7b (Amplified).

Get Busy

Idleness and unnecessary chatter are those dangerous habits capable of pulling down any group or organization. We may believe that the conversations are not harmful however they could destroy an organisation. The effect of gossip induced by idleness is even more severe in the church. It could stop the manifestation of the Holy Spirit and what is the church without the Spirit of God? One of Paul’s character traits that Christians should imbibe is diligence. We must be industrious and discharge our duties gleefully.

Paul admonishes us to be busy and not to become busybodies. Remember that we are meant to be models as ones who have been with Christ. We must not be caught slacking or shirking in our responsibilities at work, home, church and anywhere else. We must flee from idleness. We should not become slothful lest “…the house leaks” (Ecclesiastes 10:18) and avenues for gossip thrive.

LEARN and APPLY: Sometimes I see the wicked prospering and I become envious and question God for making me ‘poor’. If only I allow the Holy Spirit to tell me about the end of these wicked yet prospering people! It does not matter what happens to my flesh or how grievous the envy in my heart towards the riches of the wicked; God will keep and meet my needs as long as I am near Him. (Psalms 73:26)

Prayer Focus :
Faithful Father, please help me to be diligent and not slothful in the discharge of my duties in the church and out of it in Jesus’ name.
