‘Caretakers’ (Hos. 9) by @buqolar #LAFruits Devotional

Reading: Hosea 9, Psalm 6
August 10

TEXT: ‘Rejoice not, O Israel…For you have played the harlot, forsaking your God. You have loved (a harlot’s) hire upon every threshing floor (ascribing the harvest to baal instead of to God.)’ Hosea 9:1 (AMP)

As a little girl, I always believed everything I had was because daddy and mummy worked. My understanding of money was that it was gained through employment only. My siblings and I often joked that we would suffer if either of our parents lost their job. Then, my dad lost his and we had to learn to depend on God without a plan B. We learned to trust God in all our circumstances. More importantly, we learned that everything we possessed was because God wanted us to have them.

Most of us are still like little children, we think all we have is because we are smart and hard working, but ‘it is He who gives the power to get wealth’ (Deut 8:18) because ‘silver and gold are His’ (Hag. 2:8).’ When we acknowledge that all we have belongs to God, and that we are caretakers only, we will give it all back to Him with pure joy.
The Israelites in today’s reading were cursed because they forsook God and gave all the glory to baal. Are we also living our lives like this?

If we have been given a trust, we must prove our faithfulness!’ Honour the Lord with your first-fruits, your tithes, your offerings. The only reason why God will keep blessing anyone is so we can be a blessing to others. (2 Cor 8:7)

LEARN and APPLY: God cares about us. Honour His authority over every single aspect of your life, including your finances.

Pray: Thank You Lord for your blessings. Help me to honour You with all that I have in Jesus name. Amen.
