Pray Always
TEXT: “…The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” James 5:16 (b)

A few months ago I made a financial investment that fell through. Looking back, I can say that I never really sought God’s face concerning the investment. If I had sought God’s face in prayer, I am certain that I would have made a better decision.

James 5 encourages us to pray fervently, as prayer makes tremendous power for daily living available(v. 16). Likewise, the church is empowered to do more for God when there are people who lay daily on the altar of prayer interceding for her. When we pray, souls are revived, the sick is healed, and sinners are restored (v. 15-16).

Prayer creates room for God to be involved in the affairs of men. It is Jacob’s ladder with which angels descend from heaven to earth, bringing blessings to man (Gen. 28:12). Believers who pray, declare, Father do for us what we cannot do for ourselves.

Our prayers must never be dull, i.e. casual. God has nothing to do with dull prayers. Our prayers must be fervent. “It must be a pouring out of the heart to God,” as Matthew Henry puts it.

I pray that from today we will pick up from where we stopped praying and begin again to “Seek the Lord and his strength” (Psalm 105: 4).

LEARN and APPLY: Prayer makes tremendous power for daily living available. Have you been going about your daily business without much regard to prayer?

Pray: Father, forgive me for not playing my role efficiently in the body of Christ. Empower me to be able to pray for your church so that tremendous power is made available in Jesus name. Amen.
