Sunday Devo: Hold On

Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the Lord. Ps. 4:4-5

More often than not, the cause of our greatest pains in life are from those closest to us, especially our immediate family. Its effects shatters the core of our being and we can be left wondering where to turn, who can help if the ones we love can treat us so callously. For the believer, such experiences can be devastating and can make us ask, where are you Lord?

But have you ever noticed that most of our fears and anxieties occur when we try to fix the situation ourselves. Yes, we may have prayed but did we wait? Do we ever wait in hope? Or do we wait in vain?

‘But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.’ With these words something shifted in David’s soul and his mind was subdued from the anxieties of his circumstances, he held onto the Lord, and slept. It isn’t that God puts us through trials as a test of faith, or for our sins. It is our commitment to be faithful that activates these trials; the integrity of our hearts towards God.
Remember our battle is to continually submit our flesh, our mind under the obedience of the spirit. When we do that, our mind no longer sees through the flesh but with the eyes of God and our faith amplifies.

When your circumstances are so great that by your own strength you see no way out and it seems like the world and her cousins are against you, wait in hope. Pray and seek intimacy with God, he always hears. In the morning your cry may be of woe but unceasingly remain hopeful on the Lord and all He promises so by evening you will ‘lay down in peace, and sleep’ declaring ‘for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.’

Prayer

Lord, I release every measure of pride that I may let go and allow You control over every circumstance that contradicts Your presence in my life. Shine your light that I may know what you desire of me, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
