Resist Temptation

Reading: Nehemiah 6

Nehemiah was repeatedly distracted by messages from Sanballat and Geshem inviting him to meetings. His response was notable as he referred to his purpose and duty. He said ;shall I leave the great work I am doing?’. Nehemiah was fixated on his purpose and resisted temptation.

Jesus our Lord was tempted by the devil and He responded every time with the word of God. The devil had no choice but to leave him. James 4:7 says ‘submit ourselves to God. Resist the devil and he will flee’. Just as the plan then was to kill Nehemiah, the devil’s plan today remains to steal, kill and destroy our lives and purpose.

Temptations are baits to distract us from our purpose. No Christian is above being tempted. What makes the difference is how we respond to it. When we are fully submitted to God’s purpose, we are able to resist temptation and overcome the plans of the enemy.

Prayer Focus
Dear Father, I choose to fulfil Your plan and purpose for my life. I receive grace to stand against all temptation and ungodly distractions, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
