REVERENCE FOR GOD

Reading: Nehemiah 5

‘but out of reverence for God, I did not act like that.’  NEH 5:15(b)

Many times we are faced with situations that would require us to make certain decisions. And, just like Nehemiah, it is paramount that we make our decision and stand by it out of reverence for God.

In today’s reading, the earlier Governors acquired a lot of wealth off the suffering Jews, and nobody saw anything wrong with it. Probably, some Jews were aspiring to become Governors so that they too could follow suit. Corruption had eaten deep into their economy, but God in His infinite mercies, raised a man after his own heart to change the situation.

God was Nehemiah’s reference point therefore he made every decision with the aim of pleasing God. It took a man with ‘reverence’ for God to change the order of things.

I strongly believe that we all can learn from Nehemiah. In permitting God to be the driving force behind his life choices, God blessed Nehemiah with wealth and abundance. He was appointed to the Governor’s office and was able to feed 150 people daily (he refused to receive the food that was rightfully his), without receiving a salary!

That is the kind of supernatural supply that God provides when we serve him diligently and honestly.

Prayer Focus
Lord, we are thankful for all that You have given us. We receive today, the grace to always act in reverence for You, no matter what in Jesus’ name, Amen.
