READ #LAProverbs Devotional Day 23 ‘I CAN’

One of my daughter’s favourite books when she was a toddler was Elmer (the Elephant). A multi-coloured elephant that was different from its herd. In one story, Elmer was discouraged from being different and so painted himself the same colour as the rest of the herd. As Elmer walked around, greeting the animals of the jungle as usual, they were reserved and the jungle seemed to have lost its vibrancy. Fortunately it rained and washed off Elmer’s paint and everyone was happy to see the ‘real’ Elmer and Elmer realised that his difference served a purpose to the jungle, which he had not understood nor appreciated.

‘And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.’ Rom 12:2

Be encouraged, stand strong in your convictions and difference in this world. You are not here to conform and Proverbs 23 provides many truths to feed our souls during testing times. Especially when it feels like God’s time doesn’t match the immediacy of the ‘I-did-it-my-way’ success the world promotes.

There is no greater sustenance to keep us going than being grounded in the word. It does not matter our age, our past, our location or even our class. God has a purpose for each of us, it just might not be as we envision it. Therefore, we must submit ourselves for instruction and always seek to know the difference between our desires and the perfect will of God.

Let us not be distracted by ‘appearances’ of success and focus on the coming glory of the kingdom.

Ask God to help you fulfil your purpose in its manifestation.

‘Apply your heart to instruction, And your ears to words of knowledge.’ Prov 23:12

Prayer Focus
Keep me strong Lord, especially when I feel like time is running out or I am below my capacity. Humble my spirit that I may hear Your instruction and be obedient to Your guidance. In Christ Jesus name I plead this for me and all who seek You, Amen.
