Bear One Another’s Burdens

Text: ‘Bear (endure, carry) one another’s burdens and troublesome moral faults, and in this way fulfil and observe perfectly the law of Christ (the Messiah) and complete what is lacking [in your
obedience to it]’. Galatians 6:2 (AMP).

In the Kingdom of God we are all part of one body (Christ). The strongest parts are to uphold the weaker parts, thereby blessing the entire body. It is one of the most sensitive, highly important, sacrifices we have been called to make in our service to God. During our walk with God we may occasionally stumble along the way and do things that displease Him, likewise our brothers and sisters may also make mistakes that require repentance (1 John 1:8-10).

When this happens God directs us to confess our faults to one another (James 5:16) and uphold one another carefully (Galatians 6:1-5). We are to encourage and exhort our brothers and sisters with gentleness, with love and with prayers. Being careful we do not make the same mistakes they had made and fall into sin ourselves. We are to be kind to any brother/sister and not regard ourselves more highly than them simply because we did not commit the same wrong. Helping our brothers in love is fulfilling the perfect law of Christ. He has us here on earth to uphold and love one another, right up till He returns in glory.

How do you react when a brother/sister shares their burden with you?

LEARN and APPLY: We fulfil the perfect law of Christ whenever we handle a situation with love and gentleness – do not regard anyone less than Christ (who redeemed us by His blood). Remember, we are continually kept by the grace of God and not by our own will or strength.

Prayer Focus:
Dear Lord, help us to uphold one another in love even when we miss the mark with You sometimes. Help us to be sources of encouragement to our Christian brothers and sisters in need of strength to carry on in Jesus name. Amen
