#LAIsaiah Devotional Day 7 by Kemi Ayorinde (@khemmzie)

The bible records that all false religions originated from Babylon. In Genesis 10:10, after the great flood, all men spoke one common language and a man named Nimrod built a city and established a common religion. Nimrod was a descendant of Noah’s son, Ham. Genesis 11:1-9, describes the building of the city and its famous tower ‘whose top may reach unto heaven.’ It also records that God came down and punished the people’s arrogance. Created a confusion of different languages, and possibly their racial distinctions, so man would be forced to obey God’s original command: to ‘be fruitful and fill the whole earth.

Are we currently in a world that has become Babylon of a different sort? A city inhabited by these gods: career, money, properties, status, marriage, children, political ambition etc. Have we forgotten the reason for which we were created and turned to other gods? Does it seem like we are neglecting God and filling our hearts with evil and wickedness? Today’s scripture tells us to forsake the gods of this world and focus on God.

I encourage us to heed His directions and His spirit; the devil will be placed at our feet. The wrath of the Lord has started coming down on the earth but the Lord assures us of safety when we remain righteous and holy.

Prayer Focus
Dear God, thank You for Your unconditional love and comfort. Forgive me for all the times I have turned to the things of the world for love and comfort, and thus, abandoning you. Help me keep my place in Your kingdom as I journey through life and to rely on You for love, direction and fulfilment, always in Jesus’ name,  Amen.
