#LAFruits Devotional: My Brother’s Keeper

It isn’t my responsibility to judge outsiders but it is certainly your responsibility to judge those inside the church who are sinning. – 1 Cor. 5:12

When God asked Cain where his brother was, he answered, ‘Am I my brother’s keeper (Gen. 4:9)?’ When asked about the condition of their brothers and sisters, have many Christians not been answering like Cain, either through their words or actions?

The Redemption Christ has purchased for us is not just for a person but for a people who are a part of the body of Christ, with Jesus as its head (1 Cor 12:12).

As one body in Christ ‘Who are made full and complete by Christ’ ( Eph. 1:23 NLT), we are responsible for our brothers and sisters. Responsible for admonishing them in love when they go wrong or are led in ways which are contrary to the scriptures. This means as we attain more wisdom and instruction and apprehend more of Christ, our brethren likewise follow suit and are built up and strengthened in the truth of God’s word through our ministry.

Let us therefore be responsible for our brethren in Christ by consciously seeking to truly know them, and be available when they need us to encourage or admonish them. Also let us be accountable in our every action and deed so that we can set an example worthy of him who has sent us.

By being accountable to Christ and being responsible for our brethren in their weaknesses, we build a church that is bound in love and united in the light of Christ which shines brighter and brighter until the perfect day.

And as we pursue this, May the grace to truly love like Christ be shed abroad in our hearts and may the Holy Spirit lighten our counsel that we may know those who need us.

Prayer
Lord as we seek to follow your Will, open our hearts to your love that we may see as you see.
Show us our wrongs and strengthen our hearts that we may boldly declare your truth.
