#la187; Day 87: Echoes From Gilboa – @kingdomturf

I didn’t think I’d be writing on today’s portion until I got to the tenth chapter of 1st Chronicles. A particular verse caught my attention…”So Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he had committed against the Lord…” 1 Chronicles 10:13.

Meditating on this verse, I saw that God killed Saul because He could no longer trust him. God didn’t hate him, He just couldn’t trust him any longer. But, that wasn’t the case in the beginning. God so trusted Saul that He chose him to be the first king of His people. God looked on millions of people and He chose lowly, un-thought-of Saul as the king, He must have had so much faith in him. But what happened to Saul? Samuel provides us a glimpse. He said…”When you were little in your own eyes, were you not head of the tribes of Israel? 1 Sam. 15:17. Saul must have made himself big in his own eyes, and that error set him up for a fall.

When humility became history in Saul’s life, every other “disease” attacked and conquered him. Like the dreaded Human Immunodeficiency Virus, pride makes a man vulnerable to all kinds of hellish diseases. Saul did die on Mount Gilboa, but that was just where he shed his mortal body, he died a long time ago. He died when he became big in his own eyes, and just like no one can send the dead on an errand, God could no longer use him. He was dumped, killed, and replaced!

I am sure you don’t want to end like Saul, so I am not going to ask if you want to. But the question is, are you walking in the path of Saul? If you are walking in his path, you won’t be able to avoid his end. Remain little in your eyes, for “the humble he guides in justice, and the humble he teaches His way” Psalm 25:9. If you remain teachable, He will never cease to teach you. Like my pastor recently said, if you follow Him sheepishly, you will lionly dominate.

What’s more, the Scripture says…”Moreover, it is required in stewards that one be found faithful” 1 Cor. 4:2. Concerning Moses, God said…”He is faithful in all My house” Numbers 12:7. What does it mean to be faithful? It means to do it as He commands it. Faithfulness demands that we do God’s work God’s way. Obviously, Saul failed in this regard and because of that unfaithfulness, God killed him. God is constantly doing three things: Displacement, Replacement, and Inplacement. God is in a hurry to cover the earth with the knowledge of His Glory Hab. 2:14, and He’ll do whatever it takes to make it happen. The unfaithful will be displaced and replaced, while the faithful will be “inplaced”.

Are you faithful in the doing of that thing He has put in your hands? Faithfulness is the bridge linking little and much; it is the ladder that will take you to your next levels. It entails diligence, hard work and unwavering commitment to the cause of the Kingdom. Until you are ready to work more, don’t want more.

“So, Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he had committed against the Lord…therefore He killed him, and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse”

I am writing this verse on a card and I’ll read it every morning. I can’t afford to fail God. I can’t disappoint His trust in me. I will remain on His field till I feel His pat on my back and His Voice excitedly saying, “Son, it’s time to go home and rest”

I’ll keep walking with Him and working for Him. What about you?
