Jesus is mine!

‘And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord: it shall rejoice in His salvation.’ Psalm 35:9

There is great news in the house today! God our Father has taken time out to bring us into our promised land, which is the Holy Spirit of God. Amen. The gospel has given us a liberty that cannot be compared with anything the world can ever offer and what better way to wrap this great gift than in God’s Spirit – the Holy Ghost.

God has given us His Spirit and ‘Jesus Christ, the Spirit of truth’ remains ours today too. Yes, say it to yourself: ‘Jesus is mine!’

Reading through today’s Psalms, we can understand this victory. As privileged children of God, in our promised land, we have the liberty to come boldly before the throne of grace, to obtain mercy and find grace to help in times of need.

‘Plead my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me.’ Psalm 35:1

As we tread the earth on our journey to eternity, there may arise oppositions, tribulations, trials, battles and distresses. We might experience such challenges every now and then: complete with strain from situations that don’t add up and/or exhaustion from fighting tireless battles.

Or have you experienced something similar as David shares in Psalm 35:11-16, in which those who you wish well repay you with evil deeds? The encouragement ‘Jesus is ours ‘still resonates today and David understood that to go forward he could always overcome as long as he used his authority in Christ through prayer and in seeking God.

‘Let not them that are mine enemies wrongfully rejoice over me: neither let them win with the eye that hate me without a cause.’ Psalm 35:19

This same strategy to victory is what we need to emulate today, to overcome challenges and battles, to ride victoriously in spite of trials and tribulations, and to live above distress and opposition.

When we live in the realization that ‘Jesus is ours!’, we can then move past the clouds of the enemy and live as the conquerors that God has made us.
‘How excellent is thy loving kindness, O God! Therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.’ Psalm 36:7

This Promised Land that God has brought us into, is not a place where we live with anxiety, but with praises to the Lord (Psalm 35:28, 36:5). As you mediate in your heart that ‘Jesus is mine!’, your victory is assured at all times. Amen.

As our memory verse Psalm 36:9 exhorts, ‘For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light,’ may you see light this week and forever and the Lord bless you in Jesus’ name.

Today’s devotional was inspired by the words of this hymn:
‘Fade, Fade, each earthly joy,
Jesus is mine,
Break every tender tie,
Jesus is mine,
Dark is the wilderness,
Earth has no resting place,
Jesus alone can bless,
Jesus is mine.’

Prayer:
Lord, thank you for your word that reassures us of your love. Thank you Father for the great news that you are for us, and no one can be against us. Give us the grace to enjoy the benefits you have given us in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we are victorious, in Jesus precious name. Amen.
