How Are The Mighty Fallen
2 Samuel 1

Text: And they mourned, and wept, and fasted until even, for Saul, and for Jonathan his son, and for the people of the Lord , and for the house of Israel; because they were fallen by the sword.
2 Samuel 1:12

Learn & Apply: David had every right to rejoice, but no, he didn’t. Instead he mourned for Saul, for Jonathan, and for the nation of Israel. His action gives life to the passage that says, Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: Lest the Lord see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him (Proverbs 24:17‭-‬18).

It is unchristian and uncharitable to be happy when a fellow Believer or man of God errs. It should cause us to pray and seek God’s face for their restoration. Let us not be like the world who jubilates at the downfall of a soldier of Christ, rather let us humble ourselves before God and plead his mercy over the church, land, and country.

May God help us to be sober and vigilant at all times, in Jesus name.

Prayer: Father, forgive me for the times I’ve rejoiced when my enemy fell. Help me to be sober and vigilant, and prayerful, in Jesus name.
