August 7 – Joshua 17

God of More
Joshua 17

Text: but the hill country shall be yours, for though it is a forest, you shall clear it and possess it to its farthest borders. For you shall drive out the Canaanites, though they have chariots of iron, and though they are strong.” Joshua 17:18

Learn and Apply: I think there is nothing wrong in wanting more of God’s blessings upon your life; more of God’s power, more of God’s anointing, more of God’s supplies. It is possible to have more! We serve a God who can do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20). In our quest for more, however, we should realise that we have a responsibility to do something.

The children of Joseph were unhappy with their allotment and complained to Joshua about it. Joshua, being a wise leader, did not rebuke them for wanting more. He didn’t try to shut them up like the people tried to shut blind Bartimaeus up when he called out to Jesus for healing (Mark 10:46-52). Rather, Joshua encouraged them to take the lands they require – to fight for it, to drive out the Canaanites even though they were strong. When people come to us with yearnings for more, let us encourage them to go in faith and possess their heart desire.

As we work in faith and are willing to do more, we will possess all that belongs to us in Jesus name.

Pray: Thank you Father for your great favor. I pray that you give me more of your power, and grace and mercy in Jesus name!
