Be Kind
Judges 12

Text: Then the men of Ephraim gathered together, crossed over toward Zaphon, and said to Jephthah, “Why did you cross over to fight against the people of Ammon, and did not call us to go with you? We will burn your house down on you with fire!” Judges 12:1

Learn and Apply: Ephraim was a tribe who constantly looked for trouble where there was none. At first they confronted Gideon (ch. 8:1), but Gideon talked them into dropping their weapons and evil intentions. Here we see them confront Jephthah, after the Lord granted him victory over the people of Ammon, and while he was probably still mourning his only daughter. Rather than bring words of comfort to him for his daughter, they were envious of his victory and wanted a part in his success. Jephthah however was not as meek and gentle as Gideon, and therefore decided to match them sword for sword, the result of which caused the death of so many Ephramites.

As we go about our daily service to God and man, let us be careful to mind our business and tend the flock the Lord has put in our care. That way, we avoid the sin of envy, which has led many to their fall. And where we are called to assist in any way, let us do all to the glory of God, not craving any glory to ourselves.

May God help us to be kind to one another in Jesus name.

Pray: Thank you Father for always giving me victory over my enemies. I pray you give me the spirit of kindness and take away any spirit of envy in me, in Jesus name.
