Aug 22: Judges 8

God Only
Judges 8

Text: But Gideon said to them, “I will not rule over you, nor shall my son rule over you; the Lord shall rule over you.” Judges 8:23

Learn and Apply: In a world full of needs, it is easy for people to make gods out of those whom God used to help them. Like Gideon, we are to redirect the glory to God, acknowledging that it is God who alone deserves the glory.

God had used Gideon to work a great victory for Israel. The Midianites wanted to annihilate Israel, but for Gideon’s obedience to God. God used him mightily to restore hope in the land of Israel. And in their appreciation, they wanted to make him their king and ruler. But Gideon would have none of it. He realized where God brought him from; from the tight place of obscurity into a broad place of influence and authority. Thankfully, he acknowledged that God deserves all the glory and since He had not told him to be ruler of Israel, he would not take that title.

May we display humility like Gideon, when God uses our talents and treasure to fight and win battles for others in Jesus name.

Pray: Dear Lord, thank you for your grace bestowed upon me. I pray that you help me to be humble at all times in Jesus name.
