#Devotional May 11 – Psalm 131

Sweet Calm
Psalm 131

Text: But I have calmed and quieted myself,
I am like a weaned child with its mother;
like a weaned child I am content. Psalm 131:2

Learn and Apply: The Christian is like a weaned child. He has been weaned from the pleasures of the world, and his appetite is now to the word of God, which is able to save him and give him an inheritance among them that are sanctified (Acts 20:32). The word of God is enough for him. He is content with spiritual food based on the word of God.

What are some of the things that make us lose our calm? Is it the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes or the pride of life? Let us be like Mary who sat still before the Lord Jesus Christ, listening to hear the Good News of the gospel. Her contentment with the word of God preached by Jesus Christ earned her a worthy commendation (Luke 10:42).

As we spend time with God’s word, may our faith in Him be strengthened, and may we never be carried away by any new doctrine in Jesus name.

Pray: Father, thank you for the hope I have in you. Help me to be steadfast and unmoved, always abiding in the true word revealed to us through your son Jesus Christ. In Jesus name.
